52 Weeks

Even though I haven’t successfully pulled off another year-long project in over 10 years, I think what I have planned is so fascinating that I have a good chance to do it this time:

52 Days With Inspirational Films And Me

183 Days With Jesus And Me

90 Days With Beethoven And Me

44 Days With Eugen Jochum And Me

Total: 369 Days

This schedule will carry me from April 7, 2023, through until April 11, 2024.

I realize that’s four days over 365. But I couldn’t skip Eugen Jochum’s DG label Bruckner symphony cycle. It’s my all-time favorite. Those additional nine discs put me over the top.

This year-long project contains movies, CDs, and Bibles.

Experience has shown me that it’s easy to watch movies and blog, or listen to music and blog. But, it’s impossible to read and blog at the same time. So, I’ll have to figure out a system for doing that.

By the way, the Beethoven project is listening to the new 90-CD Beethoven complete boxed set from Naxos. The Eugen Jochum project is listening to three boxed sets from the famed German conductor:

  • Eugen Jochum – The Orchestral Recordings on Philips (15 CDs)
  • Eugen Jochum – Icon (20-CD boxed set of Jochum conducting Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, Bach, and Mozart)
  • Eugen Jochum – Bruckner: 9 Symphonies (9-CD boxed set on the famed Deutsche Grammophon label)

Why Jochum? Why Bruckner’s nine most well-known symphonies? Because, as I discovered, Mozart appeals to my mind, Beethoven appeals to my emotions, and Bruckner appeals to my spirit. Since this year-long project is all about being inspired, I figured listening to Beethoven and Bruckner would be right up my alley.
